MyDocStore is an innovative concept addressing the missing link in creating and transferring accessible files between platforms. MyDocStore aims to make it quick and easy to transfer files between devices whilst simultaneously converting them into the user's preferred format - whether text, audio or a combination of both. This service will not only benefit learners who experience difficulties with reading due to a disability such as dyslexia, visual impairment or a physical disability, but also those who want to read documents and content when on the move. The project represents a Small Business Research Initiative (SBRI) programme, which encourages technology solutions to specific public sector needs.
MyDocStore will use Cloud, desktop and mobile-based file management to address the missing link in accessible transfer of files with users' preferences for accessing all forms of digital resources. A web portal will allow users to access the service from any web-enabled device. This website is a resource for anyone interested in MyDocStore - whether as a potential user, a disability professional or someone interested in collaborating on the MyDocStore concept in the future. We are keen to hear any feedback you may have on MyDocStore. Visit our Contact Us page if you are interested in trialling MyDocStore in the future. A consortium of organisations, led by iansyst ltd, who are working alongside the Electronics and Computer Science department at Southampton University and Raspberry Software Ltd, have already developed the proof of concept phase of the project, which was funded by the SBRI Plain Sailing Competition. In December 2011 the consortium learned that they had won funding for the second phase of the project, which is now underway. Funding is from the same source: the Department for Business Innovation and Skills (BIS) and the Technology Strategy Board (TSB), and the project will continue to be managed by JISC TechDis, a leading UK advisory service on technology and inclusion. In Phase 2, MyDocStore will be developed further, leading to a marketable, commercial service. An important feature will be a web portal to enable users to upload and download files on practically any device, configure their conversion settings and monitor conversion progress. This will be entirely Cloud based so that it can be used from any web-enabled device and will enable documents to be automatically converted and transferred between devices.
